I Just Need Somebody to Give Me a Chance

I don't need another motivational quote.

I don't need to hear that everything happens for a reason or that the right opportunity will come when it's supposed to.

I just need somebody to give me a chance.

Right now, my inbox is crickets.

Application after application. Resume after resume. Jobs I know I'm qualified for. Positions I read and immediately think, I can do this.

And then...nothing.

Or another rejection.

And every time, I'm supposed to dust myself off, open another job board, submit another application, and somehow remain hopeful.

But I'm tired.

I'm Frustrated and Discouraged

Giving up isn't in my nature, but that doesn't mean I don't get tired of fighting.

I'm tired of trying to figure everything out.

I'm tired of not having enough money to do what I need to do.

I'm tired of checking my email hoping for an interview.

I'm tired of wondering what else I'm supposed to change.

My resume? My experience? My expectations? Myself?

I know my value isn't determined by whether an employer chooses me. But after enough rejection and silence, it's hard not to wonder:

What am I doing wrong?

I Don't Need Someone to Save Me

I need an opportunity.

I have the education.

I have the experience.

I have leadership skills.

I have research.

I have ideas.

I have passion.

I have work I genuinely believe I'm supposed to be doing in this world.

But potential doesn't pay bills. Degrees don't guarantee opportunities. And purpose doesn't exempt you from needing a paycheck.

I'm not asking anyone to hand me something I'm incapable of doing.

Give me the opportunity to show you what I can do.

Let me get in the room.

Let me have the interview.

Let me show you how I think, how I lead, and what I bring to the table.

Sometimes the difference between where you are and where you're trying to go isn't talent, intelligence, education, or work ethic.

Sometimes it's simply opportunity.

Somebody has to open the door.

I'm Still Here

I don't have an inspirational ending for this one.

I'm frustrated.

I'm discouraged.

I'm tired.

And I'm still here.

Still applying.

Still writing.

Still creating.

Still believing there is more for me, even when I can't see how I'm going to get there.

I have spent too many years becoming this woman to decide she has no value simply because nobody has hired her yet.

So I'll keep going, even tired.

Because I'm not asking somebody to create value in me.

The value is already here.

I just need somebody to give me a chance.
